Sustainability

The livelihoods of our fishing folks, our families and our community at large depend on having a healthy fish population to breed without upsetting the natural balance of our seas.
As custodians of the Moray Firth we take a responsible, measured and informed approach to sustainability.
Our goal as custodians is to ensure our customers eat deluxe seafood specialities with confidence.
Our fresh seafood is sourced responsibly from the finest catch. We only select the best grade of produce in the species, all traceable and the range we hand select is based on freshness, maturity and quality.
Our business model is DIRECT sea to plate.
All our species are caught in season and shock frozen for your convenience. Our wide seafood delicacies can be enjoyed at anytime of year.
Our sourcing philosophy is designed on value and quality of catch, not volume. Our focus on handling only the very best species in season - when not spawning- engages us to deliver genuine deluxe seafood delicacies without impacting negatively on our fisheries.
All our species are sourced through such practices as The Responsible Fishing Scheme that audits the application of good practice by vessel, skipper and crew in their fishing operations in relation to sustainability. What this means is all our produce can be traced back to source. Questions such as when, where and how it was caught can be answered as well as how it was handled? Our supply chain model gives you the consumer piece of mind on sourcing integrity.
Our volume scampi business is in the process of being accredited with Marine Stewardship Council chain of custody (1st half of 2010) for Nephrops Norvegicus (Langoustines, Dublin Bay Prawns). The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) is the environmental standard for sustainable and well-managed fisheries that is fully consistent with the FAO code of conduct for Responsible Fisheries.
As a useful code to inform you on sustainable welfare, we also offer the accreditation on seafood species by the Marine Conservation Society (MCS) in our individual produce specification.
Through buying DIRECT with Moray Seafoods "the producer", we together build an independent chain of supply that defines highest grade practice and sourcing quality of only mature species that do not impact the levels of fish species in our seas and guarantees the seafood our forefathers enjoyed for the children of tomorrow.
To assist you and guide you in the questions that covers the critical subject of sustainability and its impact on our seafood species, we offer you the Seafish guide to the UK fishing industry.
